SURGE: THE VEGAN REVOLUTION
SOCIAL JUSTICE HISTORICALLY HAS ONLY EVER BEEN CONCERNED WITH THE WELLBEING OF HUMAN ANIMALS, YET NON-HUMAN ANIMALS ARE THE MOST OPPRESSED AND ABUSED BEINGS ON EARTH, EXISTING IN THE BILLIONS, THEIR SUFFERING UNIMAGINABLE.
Surge is an animal rights organisation determined to create a world where compassion towards all non-human animals is the norm. Our aim is to spread awareness, educate the public and assert a peaceful stance against animal exploitation. Surge is committed to positive community building, teamwork and the abolition of animal use.
Surge asserts that animal oppression is not a matter of welfare, it is a matter of liberation.
SURGE PROJECTS & CAMPAIGNS:
LONDON FASHION WEEK ANTI-FUR CAMPAIGN
Since September 2016, Surge has been running an on-going campaign demanding that the British Fashion Council ban fur from the London Fashion Week catwalk. Our protests have gone from a small but powerful group of 20 protesters, to 300 protesters in one year alone. Alongside over 300,000 signatures on our petition and support from vegan celebrities, the public has clearly demonstrated a huge opposition to the continuation of fur on the catwalks of London.
You can support our campaign by signing and sharing our petition today.
THE OFFICIAL ANIMAL RIGHTS MARCH
The Official Animal Rights March is an annual vegan march founded by Surge. The purpose of the march is to unite the vegan community globally and to inspire vegans to become active. The march began in London in 2016 with 2,500 vegans and in 2017 the march doubled to 5,000 vegans marching for animal liberation through the streets of London with thousands more marching across the globe.
In 2018 we want to see thousands more vegans taking to the streets, demanding an end to all animal oppression. You can find out more about The Official Animal Rights March and sign up for updates on our website.
LAND OF HOPE AND GLORY
In 2005, a film called Earthlings became the most pivotal documentary of the animal rights movement. Here in the UK however, Surge found the phrase "that doesn't happen in our country" coming up far too much. We wanted to set the record straight. Through our documentary Land of Hope and Glory we aim to show the truth behind UK land animal farming by featuring the most up to date investigations as well as never before seen undercover footage, with a total of approximately 100 UK facilities featured throughout the film.
THE BIG VEGAN ACTIVISM VAN
The Big Vegan Activism Van is a moving activism project with the mission of visiting as many education establishments in the UK as possible, providing vegan education and outreach to students.
Our day of education consists of a full day of on-campus outreach with a virtual reality headset station, followed by an evening screening of our documentary Land of Hope and Glory and a speech and Q&A by Surge co-founder Ed Winters (Earthling Ed). To encourage non-vegans to come to the screening and speech, we give out free vegan pizza to all attendees.
If you want us to come to your university then simply get in touch to get booked on the tour.
Surge works closely with undercover investigators in order to reveal the hidden truth about what happens to animals in the UK. Surge investigations featured throughout our 2017 documentary Land of Hope and Glory, which revealed never before seen undercover footage obtained in UK farming and slaughterhouse facilities.
Through releasing undercover investigations, we aim to shine a light on what is kept hidden from the public. Our aim is to educate the masses by exposing the reality of how animal products arrive at our plate.
See more on our investigations page.
Down with Dairy
Down with Dairy is a street activism event using facts, footage and food to shift the public's perception of the dairy industry. Activists can either display footage or facts, or work as part of the outreach team or on the plant-based sample stall.
From Down with Dairy events, we have found that the majority of the general public are simply not aware
of what happens to cows and calves in the dairy industry - and once most find out, they are naturally horrified.
